Learning Needs

Having completed this EGP Update item you may be planning to learn new skills such as learning how to insert an intra-uterine device. If you would like to learn how to fit the IUS, you should contact the Faculty of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Care www.ffprhc.org.uk for information on training.

Are you familiar with the criteria for making urgent gynaecology referrals in your local protocol? Check your local gynaecology referral guidelines.

Service Needs

What access do patients in your practice have to insertion of a Mirena coil? Is IUS insertion available within your surgery or do you have to refer elsewhere? If it’s not available in the surgery could or should you provide the service? Is it easily accessible elsewhere? If you don’t know, someone at your local primary care organisation or health board should be able to advise you.
