Primary care development

The RCGP excels in its work with commissioners, GP practices and individuals, developing and delivering bespoke practice support, development and training for all members of the practice team.

We are working closely with NHS England to ensure the ambitions set out in the GP Forward View are fully realised. As such, we are well placed to work with CCGs and GP practices, to support the delivery of the GP Forward View objectives and help you to deliver against its 10 High Impact Actions.

Whether you’re looking to train non-clinical practice staff, further develop your practice managers or seeking to improve or support practices, the RCGP is here as your independent, critical-friend to support and facilitate. We have designed our services to provide commissioners with a one-stop solution to delivering against the GP Forward View 10 High Impact Actions:

Why RCGP?

We have a unique position as the guardian of standards for general practice. For over 65 years we have fortified general practice and backed our members through our work as a standards and policy setting body, and as a provider of professional support, committed to providing both leadership and practical guidance for general practice.

The RCGP is renowned for its high-quality CPD provision for primary care, designed specifically to promote excellence, while increasing time for care.

Using a blended approach, the RCGP can work with you to address the training needs of practice reception and clerical staff, practice managers, practice nurses and advanced nurse practitioners, physicians associates and GPs.

We already have an excellent track record in supporting practices in difficulty through the national NHS England endorsed Peer Support Programme for practices placed in special measures. Since 2014 our team has worked with over 200 practices, driving improvement and quality outcomes in general practice. Over 75% of practices who have taken up our bespoke support service have successfully come out of special measures, following re-inspection (correct as of June 2017).

We have an expert team of over 80 clinicians, practice managers and nurse advisers to help support and develop your practice.

We have extended our services to meet the needs of practices not in special measures but struggling to cope with the unique pressures experienced in general practice.
