College Policy
This section contains
information on the College's position on key issues affecting
primary care.
This section outlines Dr Clare
Gerada’s priorities for her three year tenure.
Lists position statements and
documents setting out the College's stance on important issues
affecting primary care. It incorporates policies from the devolved
nations which can be accessed separately on the RCGP
Wales, RCGP
Scotland and
RCGP Northern Ireland websites.
The Commission will examine the
contribution of medical generalism and the role of the generalist
in today's healthcare system. The work will be taken forward by an
independent panel, chaired by Baroness Ilora Finlay.
Integration of Care
In October 2011 the College consulted
its members and other organisations on integration of care. The
College's
consultation document and an
executive summary are available to view
online. The consultation has now closed.
RCGP Chairs' Joint Statement on General Practice and the Future
of Health and Social Care
In March 2012 the Chairs of the RCGP's UK Council and Councils
in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland wrote to the Health
Ministers of all four countries calling for a UK-wide vision for
the future of the NHS and patient care. This vision was outlined in
a
jointly-signed statement on general practice and the future of
health and social care.
In May 2012 the College received a positive response (reply
to joint statement) jointly signed by the UK Secretary of State
for Health and Ministers in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland,
stating: "General practice has an invaluable contribution to make
in improving outcomes through more effective integrated care and
management of patients."
The responses are being used to
develop a policy report on integration of care which we expect to
publish later in the year, and also helped inform the College's
submission on the integration of care to the
NHS Future Forum.
