The College has an
extensive range of awards, including in its faculties and devolved
Councils.
Awards are by application
and by nomination and administered by the Awards Committee, chaired
by the President. All are intended to give recognition,
encouragement and to empower people in the different ways they
work. The following are awards available by application.

RCGP/SAPC
Elective Prize
Deadline end of February each year to
applicants’ Department of General Practice
Annual elective prize of £500
towards an elective in general practice. Open to all
undergraduate medical students in the British Isles. Each
Department of General Practice or Primary Care may submit the name
of one student for consideration by the end of March each year

Adolescent
Health Care Award (in memory of Dr Kathy Phipps)

Deadline end May 2010
Award of £2,500 and a
commemorative plaque for an individual GP or practice which has
demonstrated a significant innovation or improvement in the
standard of care provided for young people in the previous two
years. The winner is presented with a cheque at the RCGP
Annual General Meeting.

Paul Freeling
Award -
Deadline end of August each year
Award/s of up to £1,000
for innovative or meritorious work in the field of vocational
training for general practice. The winner is presented with a
cheque at the RCGP Annual General Meeting.

National GP of the Year
Awards Deadline Summer
2010
A new award will be
launched in 2010 to recognise excellence in general practice for
nomination by patients of the surgery. This follows the
successful the GP of the Year awards in Wales, Northern Ireland and
Scotland. Further details will be available on http://www.rcgpfundraising.org/events/ .
The Patient Participation Award which is used to benefit the
patients of a practice or to further patient participation in the
UK will be run in conjunction with this.

Rose Prize - Deadline January 2011

Award for original work in
the history of British General Practice. Joint prize
with Worshipful Society of Apothecaries. The winner is
presented with a commemorative certificate at the RCGP Spring
General Meeting.

| Disability Care Award
2010 deadline closed - award is in the process
of being adjudicated
Award of up to £5,000 to encourage
excellence of care to disabled people in general practice.
Awarded to a practice or GP in recognition of innovative or
significant developments in the organisation, accessibility or
delivery of care to disabled people. The College is grateful
to Leonard Cheshire Disability for their support of the
award. The winner is presented with a cheque at the RCGP
Spring General Meeting.

The GP Enterprise Awards
2010 deadline closed
The Royal College of General Practitioners is searching the UK
for practices which have made inventive changes to their
everyday working that can be easily adopted by colleagues in other
surgeries. GPs and their teams are being urged to come
forward with their innovative ideas as soon as possible to stand a
chance of winning a GP Enterprise Award in 2010.

International
Travel Scholarships To enable GPs from the UK to undertake
international study of an aspect of primary healthcare that is
relevant to their country's needs. They also assist overseas family
doctors to visit the UK and study an aspect of primary healthcare
relevant to their own country’s needs, or to help develop
their own systems of primary care. The value of each scholarship
award normally ranges from £200 to £1,000. |
