Prizes and Awards
The RCGP runs a wide range of awards
intended to recognise, encourage and empower people in the
different ways they work. Organisations and RCGP members often make
generous donations to make these awards possible.

RCGP/SAPC
Elective Prize
Deadline End of February each
year to applicants’ Department of General
Practice
Annual elective prize of £500
towards an elective in general practice. Open to all
undergraduate medical students in the British Isles. Each
Department of General Practice or Primary Care may submit the name
of one student for consideration by the 31st March each year.

Adolescent Health Care Award (in memory of Dr Kathy
Phipps) 
Deadline end May
2010
Award of £2,500 and a
commemorative plaque for an individual GP or practice which has
demonstrated a significant innovation or improvement in the
standard of care provided for young people in the previous two
years. The winner is presented with a cheque at the RCGP
Annual General Meeting.

There are over 20 awards of various types: academic (i.e.
eponymous) lectures; medals or a silver gavel and monetary prizes.
These can be awarded to individuals at the beginning of a general
practice career such as registrars, to those who have spent a
lifetime in practice and also to those outside medicine.
Most of the awards are presented at the two general meetings of
the College. The Annual General Meeting is held in November and the
Spring General Meeting held in April / May.

Other College Awards
Although not administered by the Awards
Committee, the College also offers a number
of International Travel
Scholarships and grants through
the Scientific Foundation Board. In addition, some faculties organise their own
awards. Details of these are available from the Faculty
office.
The College is always keen to promote its
awards. If you are organising a conference or have any suggestions
please email the Awards Committee.
