Vacancy for Chair - International
Committee

The International Committee is seeking to
appoint a Council or a College member to
take over the position of Chair of the International Committee, in
succession to Dr. Iona Heath, who is stepping down from the
position in November 2009. 
The appointment will be for three years
initially, renewable for a further three year term. The Committee’s
main functions and aims are :
- To aid educational exchange and dialogue
between the United Kingdom and overseas to promote the standing and
the study of general practice / family medicine
- To support overseas members
- To represent the interests of general
practice in the UK and the interests of College members through
representations to government, the European Commission and to other
European and world-wide bodies
- To manage and support activities in relation
to the International Programmes
Responsibilities will include Chairing and
participating in three Committee meetings per year, plus occasional
smaller group meetings; leading and supporting the Committee and
the International Department; and assisting with the delivery
of services in accordance with the Committee’s aims. Committee
members also take a lead on particular International programmes -
it is therefore important applicants detail their
international experience, so this can be taken into account when
determining Committee roles.
