RCGP Welcomes Rise of Women in Medicine
3rd June 2009
RCGP Chair Steve Field has voiced his support
for the Royal College of Physicians study Women and Medicine:
The Future.
Commenting on the study, Professor Field said:
“The RCGP welcomes this study which confirms
what we have known for a long time.”
“I am delighted we have been able to attract
large numbers of very high calibre women into our ranks. General
practice provides stimulating and flexible career opportunities,
which lends itself well to those who wish to build a career and
enjoy their lives outside medicine. There are numerous
opportunities to extend clinical skills and to advance in academic
medicine.”
“The RCGP itself has embraced flexible working
and has a large number of women in senior council and officer
positions. These include our next President, our current Vice
Chair, along with our present and future Honorary Secretary.”
