RCGP Responds to Darzi Report - One Year On

30th June 2009

RCGP Chairman Professor Steve Field has responded to the publication of Lord Darzi’s report High Quality Care For All: Our Journey So Far.

He insisted that “The RCGP supports Lord Darzi’s drive to make quality the organising principle of the NHS."

“As we have said before, we welcome the extra investment in primary care - particularly in areas which have traditionally suffered from a lack of GPs, such as in the inner cities.

“We support the move to deliver more care closer to patients. It’s important that Primary Care Trusts work much more closely with GPs and consult patients and the public when developing primary care services, so that investment is targeted and leads to better health outcomes.

“The RCGP is ready to lead. We call upon GPs across the country to step up and take on leadership roles, whether in delivering or in commissioning services.

“The RCGP will provide leadership. We would like to see GPs and managers across the country work together more closely to deliver even higher quality care for all patients – city by city, town by town, street by street.”
