Dr Iona Heath Elected as New RCGP PresidentDr Iona Heath, Chair International Committee

The RCGP has announced that Dr Iona Heath has been elected as the next President of the College following a national ballot of its membership.

 

Dr. Heath has been a GP in Kentish Town, London, since 1975 and recently received the RCGP Foundation Council Award for special meritorious work in connection with the College. She has previously chaired the RCGP Ethics Committee and is currently the chair of the RGCP International Committee.

 

Dr. Heath will take up the presidency at the end of the Annual General Meeting in November 2009. The other unsuccessful candidates were Dr. Una Coales and Dr. Has Joshi.

 

Election results for six Nationally-Elected Council Member candidates have also been released. The successful candidates were:

  • Dr. Maureen Baker
  • Dr. Tim Ballard
  • Dr. Una Coales
  • Prof. Jacky Hayden
  • Prof. Helen Lester
  • Prof. Valerie Wass

 

There were a total of 20 candidates standing for election. The successful candidates will begin their three year terms of office from 21 November 2009
