Free Prescriptions for Cancer Patients – RCGP Response

20th January 2009

Professor Steve Field, Chairman of the Royal College of General Practitioners, said:

“We very much welcome this decision. This is excellent news and a welcome helping hand for all of those who have been diagnosed as having cancer and are undergoing treatment.”

“GPs are highly aware of the effect of charging for prescriptions on patients, and we look forward to seeing our patients to talk about applying for their exemption certificate.”

“While we welcome this very positive news, we also recognise there are further anomalies in the system in England. We are pleased the review of prescription charges is being extended to all patients with long term conditions but would urge the government to consider providing free prescriptions for all.”
