RCGP Seeks First5 CPD Fellow

2nd November 2009

The Royal College of General Practitioners is looking for a clinician to help us develop a suite of CPD provisions for GPs within the first five years of completion of training.

The First5 is a new RCGP initiative to support newly qualified GPs through those crucial first five years up to the first point of revalidation.

There are five key pillars of First5:

1.      Connecting with the College - promote a sense of belonging and appropriate representation for the First5 cohort within the College

2.      Facilitating networks – peer support and mentoring

3.      Supporting revalidation

4.      Career mentorship – making the most of a career in general practice

5.      Continuous professional development (CPD) and new skills

This post will link with the CPD Management Work stream of the Professional Development Board and will include responsibility for: identifying areas of CPD need for GPs in the first five years after training, initiating work to develop educational resources aimed at First5 and the most appropriate mode of delivery (eLearning, workshops, etc.), reviewing existing CPD provision and advising on opportunities to tailor those to the needs of GPs in the first five years, liaising and working  with faculties to identify appropriate means of delivering CPD locally.

This post holder will work closely with the Medical Director for eLearning and the EKU Fellow to ensure integration with the Managed CPD Strategy. The work will be directed by the Chair of the Professional Development Board.

We anticipate a commitment of 2 sessions per week over a twelve month period and will reimburse travel and subsistence expenses.

The post is available from 1 December 2009 for one year in the first instance.

Applications should be submitted by 5:00pm on Monday 16th November 2009 to Dragana Milosevic at the contact details below and should include a covering letter outlining suitability for the role and a current CV.

Role descriptions are available from education@rcgp.org.uk

Interviews are expected to take place on 19th November  2009 when shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide a brief (10 minute) presentation on their vision for the role.
