College Seeks CPD Resources Fellow

The Royal College of General Practitioners is
looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and creative clinician to join
its e-learning team.
The principal responsibilities of this
exciting and challenging new role will focus on the development and
quality assurance of RCGP e-learning packages. This will involve
leading the development of specific e-learning packages; overseeing
the authors commissioned to write content; coordinating, reviewing
and quality assuring the authors’ material, and working with the
College’s e-learning technical team to develop these materials into
engaging and high quality online resources. Other responsibilities
will involve scoping the needs and possible approaches for blended
learning, evaluating current online educational provision, and
working up new proposals for next stage development.
This post holder will work under the guidance
of the Medical Director for e-Learning and with the Essential
Knowledge Updates Fellow to ensure integration with the College’s
CPD strategy. The post holder will report to the Chair of the
Professional Development Board. We anticipate a commitment of 2
sessions per week over a twelve month period. In addition to the
sessional reimbursement, travel and subsistence expenses will be
reimbursed. The post is available from 1 December 2009 for one year
in the first instance.

some familiarity with online educational technologies and
approaches is desirable, advanced IT skills are not required for
this role.
Interviews are expected to take place on
20th November when shortlisted
candidates will be asked to provide a brief (10 minute)
presentation on their vision for the role and future of online
postgraduate medical education.

Background
The RCGP is developing a growing number of
e-learning programmes for general practitioners to support
continuing professional development. This includes the Essential
Knowledge Updates and Essential Knowledge Challenge Programme (a
six monthly synthesis of new and changing knowledge to enable GPs
to keep up-to-date) and the e-GP curriculum-based programme of
e-learning modules. A range of online courses to support GPs
developing advanced practice skills are also in development,
covering topics such as psychological therapies, referrals quality,
