The College lectures are extremely prestigious events. Lecturers
are decided two years in advance when the Awards Committee makes
recommendations to Council. The College maintains a database of
possible suitable candidates.
The recipient of this award is invited to give the William
Pickles Lecture, usually based on an educational topic, at the host
faculty’s Spring Symposium. Lectures are usually published in the
British Journal of General Practice. The host faculty is invited to
the Awards Committee, and should be liaised with closely on
nominations for the Lecturer. The Awards
Committee usually makes a recommendation to Council at least two
years in advance of the lecture.
This lecture was established in 1992 to celebrate the
College’s fortieth year. It is delivered by someone who is not
medically qualified. The inaugural John Hunt Lecture was given by
HRH The Prince of Wales. It is an extremely prestigious lecture and
is normally given during each College Presidency.
Award: A silver medal with the College Coat of Arms presented
by the President on the occasion of the lecture. Associated travel
and subsistence costs are met.
