RCGP statement on 0844 telephone lines

08.08.08

Maureen Baker, Honorary Secretary of the Royal College of GPs said:

“Individual GP surgeries need to decide whether this will make them more efficient in dealing with patient queries and patients should always be consulted before new systems are implemented and given prior warning of any call charges.

“GP surgeries should not be installing telephone systems to generate income but if any profits are made, these should be discussed with patients and perhaps ploughed back into patient services."

Ends.
