RCGP current statement on MMR

16 July 2007

“The latest situation is that trust in the MMR is increasing with a more positive reception of the vaccine by parents. This has been achieved by the hard work of everybody in primary care.  We hope the current GMC hearing which is about a separate issue does not adversely affect this hard work.  It is important to remember that the GMC is considering regulatory issues and not the MMR vaccine.

“We believe that the MMR triple vaccine protects the health of children.  A large body of scientific evidence shows no link between the vaccine and autism.”

Professor Mayur Lakhani, RCGP Chairman of Council

Along with 13 other medical organisations the College also recently signed the statement below:

“We the undersigned believe that the MMR triple vaccine protects the health of children.  A large body of scientific evidence shows no link between the vaccine and autism.”
