RCGP comment on Pulse article 3 August 2006

3 August 2006

The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) is currently in contact with Pulse magazine over an article in last week’s edition (3 August 2006) “RCGP spruces up knowledge test for recertification”.

The article says that RCGP Scotland plans to use their PEP e-kit test, which is currently being revamped, for the recertification of GPs. This is not the case.  The test is currently being routinely looked at again to ensure it is in line with current GP training and educational needs.

The RCGP position on recertification, which has been clearly stated to Pulse magazine several times, is that we are not making any further plans regarding recertification until our consultation with the membership has been completed, and debated by Council.

Neither, as the article states, is RCGP Scotland in talks with the BMA on setting a pass/fail threshold for the test.
