RCGP launches online student forum for medical
undergraduates
Medical students around the UK will be able to access a wealth of
information about becoming a GP by logging on to the Royal College
of General Practitioners’ (RCGP) new online student forum.
The forum, which was piloted earlier this
year, has now been rolled out nationwide in time for the new intake
of undergraduates in September.
Designed to support students through their
time at medical school and onto the Foundation programme, the forum
provides information and careers guidance about general practice
and allows registered users to access online publications and news
bulletins. It also offers a range of benefits including discounts
at the RCGP bookshop and use of the College’s library services.
Laura Struthers, a fourth year medical student
at King’s College London, took part in the pilot. She says: “Since
preclinical GP placements I’ve known I want to enter general
practice, and joining the RCGP Student Forum has given me
invaluable careers advice with which to actively pursue this
goal.
“With information ranging from ethical
tutorials, CV templates and interview advice to other insights into
‘Life as a GP’ and ‘The role of the College’, the RCGP student
forum has provided a concise but comprehensive resource to put me
at an advantage in today’s competitive training environment.”
