Counting down to the first RCGP national
conference
Only two weeks to go until the inaugural RCGP National Annual
Conference ‘A Fresh Approach’.
The event will be held from 4 – 6 October 2007
at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) and will be
chaired by Niall Dickson of the King’s Fund.
A Fresh Approach is the
event for GPs and practice teams. Subjects for discussion
range from new models of primary care proposed in the
newly-launched RCGP “Roadmap” on the future of general
practice to recertification and developments in international
medicine.
GPs attending from around the UK will get the
chance to put their questions to a wide range of speakers from the
clinical and political spectrum including the UK’s Chief Medical
Officers, current RCGP Chairman Professor Mayur Lakhani and
Chair-elect Professor Steve Field.
Huge changes in GP education – a curriculum
specifically for GPs and developments in the RCGP assessment of GPs
in training – will be a major focus, along with the launch of a new
RCGP centre dedicated to GP research and innovation in clinical
practice.
The College will also be going live with
several new initiatives to help day-to-day work in practices
including guidance and toolkits produced in conjunction with
children’s charity NSPCC and the Princess Royal Trust for
Carers.
Other highlights include:
- Professor Chris Van Weel, President of Wonca – Outside
looking in – An international perspective of UK Primary
Care
- Sir Alan Langlands, Principal and Vice Chancellor, University
of Dundee – Responding to change
- Rebecca Stephens, first British woman to climb Everest –
Facing the challenges ahead
A concurrent programme of over 50 talks and
workshops running throughout the three days will explore key issues
of importance to every GP and practice team in the UK.
Dr Graham Archard, RCGP Vice-Chairman said:
“General practice is at a crossroads, with GPs and their teams well
placed to shape, lead and implement further improvements in patient
care. We have an exciting few days ahead and every delegate should
go away feeling better equipped for their varied and challenging
roles, as well as having the chance to network and have a good
time!”
