Family doctors are being given the chance to
enhance their consulting skills and gain advice on managing the
doctor-patient relationship from one of the top experts in the
field.
Dr Roger Neighbour will hold a one-day
interactive Masterclass on consultation skills at the Royal College
of General Practitioners (RCGP) on Wednesday 30 May.
The former RCGP President has written many
articles on the doctor-patient relationship and is the author of
“The Inner Consultation”, one of the best-known and most frequently
referred to books on the subject.
The Masterclass is open exclusively to a
limited number of GPs and will combine presentations,
demonstrations, exercises and training in practical techniques.
Delegates will be invited to bring examples of their own
consultations, and will be offered an individual, confidential
follow-up.
Dr Neighbour said: “The doctor-patient
relationship remains at the heart of general practice, but GPs may
feel that changing priorities in the NHS can put their consulting
skills under ever greater pressure.
“The Masterclass gives participants an
opportunity, in a supportive environment, to improve how they
communicate with patients, and to increase their enthusiasm and
confidence in managing the consultation process effectively.”
The event is the first in a new series of RCGP
Masterclasses which will see prominent experts delivering a wide
range of topics relevant to GPs.
