Summary of key debates at the Royal College of
General Practitioners' (RCGP) November 2006 Council
meeting
1 December 2006
GP curriculum
Following PMETB’s unconditional approval of
the GP training curriculum, Professor Steve Field, Chair of the
RCGP Professional Development Board, gave an update on the future
plans for implementing the GP training curriculum, including the
training programme approval process. A Curriculum Guide for
learners and teachers will be available on the college web site
http://www.rcgp-curriculum.org.uk/
from the beginning of December.
Re-certification of GPs
In response to the recommendations of
re-licensure and re-certification in the Chief Medical Officer’s
report, the Chairman informed Council that a Revalidation Steering
Group would be established, once the outcome of the College’s
response to the report and timescales were known.
Practice accreditation
Vice-Chair Dr Nigel Sparrow gave Council an
update on developments with primary care practice accreditation
based on Quality Team Development (QTD). These are still at an
early stage and are being taken forward by an RCGP/GPC Liaison
group who are developing a pilot scheme which will be voluntary and
developmental.
Preparing for a flu
pandemic
Dr Maureen Baker, Honorary Secretary, informed
Council that the RCGP is considering plans to hold a public meeting
under the leadership of its Patient Partnership Group to discuss
the issues that surround planning for a flu pandemic.
