RCGP Comment on Healthcare
Commission's Annual Health Checks for NHS Trusts
12 October 2006
“Standards exist for a good reason
– to improve patient care - and the relatively poor performance of
primary care trusts whose job it is to improve services for
patients and support GPs is worrying.
While there have been significant
developments in areas such as smoking cessation and drug misuse, it
is obvious that there is much more to be done to improve standards
and quality across the board and we hope that the new, reconfigured
PCTs will offer more support to GP practices where over 90 percent
of patient care is delivered.
The Healthcare Commission’s
methodology is to be commended and should continue to be more
searching so that patients’ interests are protected.”
