Managing these situations is complex

Each case needs to be approached on an individual basis. They are always time consuming and emotionally demanding for health care professionals. Sharing concerns and clarifying information and responsibilities with other involved colleagues within the primary care team, preferably with the non-abusive parent’s consent, is to be encouraged. Confidential support and advice, without revealing clients’ names can be obtained from the “named” nurse or doctor for child protection in each PCO.
