RCGP enhances Revalidation ePortfolio
06/02/12
RCGP has introduced a number of enhancements
to its Revalidation ePortfolio – an online tool designed to help
GPs meet the requirements of appraisal and Revalidation.
The latest version of the ePortfolio, already used by nearly 15,000
GPs and 80 primary care organisations (PCOs), has been designed
specifically by GPs for GPs to meet the needs of Revalidation and
aid personal development and appraisal.
The Revalidation ePortfolio, free to members and PCOs, now
offers integration with the RCGP Online Learning Environment (OLE).
When a user completes an OLE module – such as an Essential
Knowledge Update or Challenge – they can instantly update their
learning log at the click of a button.
The RCGP is continuing to develop and enhance the features of
the ePortfolio in the coming months, including offering more
integration across its other resources, such as the Trainee
ePortfolio and the Personal Education Planning (PEP) tool.
A series of enhancements to streamline the appraisal process
will be implemented by early March. PCOs using the ePortfoilio will
be able to manage and quality assure the appraisal process using a
lead appraiser management function. Building on this, towards the
end of 2012, a Responsible Officer function will be introduced
providing a comprehensive “end to end” solution for
organisations.
Professor Mike Pringle, RCGP Medical Director for Revalidation
said: “The RCGP is committed to helping GPs meet the needs of
revalidation. We’re confident that the Revalidation ePortfolio is
the best system available for General Practitioners and will be the
tool of choice for the majority of PCOs.
“The latest enhancements have added to what was already an
impressive resource, allowing GPs to record their continuing
professional development activity and link this to their personal
development plans – something that will be crucial for GPs
appraisal and revalidation.”

Notes to editors
The Royal College of General Practitioners is a network of more
than 44,000 family doctors working to improve care for patients. We
work to encourage and maintain the highest standards of general
medical practice and act as the voice of GPs on education,
training, research and clinical standards.
Revalidation is the General Medical Council’s (GMC) new way of
regulating doctors to give further assurance to patients that they
are up to date and fit to practise. Doctors will revalidate by
having regular appraisals that are based on the GMC’s core guidance
for the medical profession, Good Medical Practice. The GMC expect
to introduce revalidation in late 2012.
