A one-day guide to gastrointestinal disorders
06/02/12
Gastrointestinal disorders are the focus of
the RCGP’s first One Day Essentials clinical conference of 2012 on
Tuesday 21 February.
Open to RCGP members and non-members alike, each One Day
Essentials conference aims to provide the latest information,
practical tips and take-home messages on specific clinical topics
in just one day, limiting the amount of time that GPs and their
teams are away from their practices.
Launched in 2011, the series is back in 2012 with a busy
programme of 12 clinical conferences for GPs and their colleagues
in primary care – beginning with the gastrointestinal disorders
event at The Barbican in London.
The programme for the day, developed by and featuring leading
experts, will provide over four hours of learning on the most
essential aspects of the diagnosis, treatment and management of
patients with gastrointestinal disorders, including:
- Red flags – what to look out for and what to do about them
- How to investigate and treat reflux symptoms
- The latest approaches to managing irritable bowel syndrome
- Diagnosing and treating coeliac disease
- Understanding abnormal liver function tests
- Tips on commissioning for gastrointestinal services
As well as equipping GPs and their colleagues with the
information and skills to improve patient outcomes, the event
offers an opportunity for members of the primary care team to
network and share ideas.
Feedback since the series was launched has shown that the
one-day format helps GPs improve their knowledge, without taking
too much time away from their practice.
Dr Clare Gerada, Chair of the RCGP said: “The success of last
year’s One-Day Essentials showed that there is a real need and
desire for this kind of practical CPD amongst GPs and their
colleagues.
“The conference has been accredited for CPD by the RCGP so by
attending, you can add to your portfolio in preparation for your
annual appraisal and ultimately revalidation.“
