Latest statement on junior doctors
Dr Maureen Baker, Chair of the RCGP, said: “This is devastating news, especially after the College and 12 other Royal Colleges called for the Prime Minister’s intervention to end this impasse.
“This ongoing stand-off between the government and junior doctors is crushing the morale of the very people on whom the future of the NHS depends.
“We are now just hours away from the first strike of this magnitude by doctors for 40 years, and we are dismayed that it has come to this.
“Time is running out and it is vital that a resolution to this dispute is found, both for our patients and our profession, and so we again call on the Government to drop imposition of the contract and resume talks.”
