Career mentorship

Highlighting the opportunities a career offers and helping new GPs get the most out of being a GP

What can mentoring do?

Mentoring can get you started on a career pathway or focus your efforts to achieve a result. A mentor can be sounding board or someone who will hold you to account depending on what you want.

Why should I be a mentor?

Because you care. Because you want to help. Because you can learn something too.

Do I need a mentor?

Communicating with someone who has ‘been there and done that’ means you can learn their lessons from the benefit of their hindsight. While it may not substitute for professional advice, family or friends, sometimes it's exactly what you need. The RCGP is a network of general practice enthusiasts and you won’t get that elsewhere.

How do I get started?

From the Update Your Details > Additional Information pages you will need to opt-in to being either a mentor or a mentee (or both) and agree to share your experience, time and contact details with other members. How you pick your mentor/mentee is up to you as are the terms of your arrangement. You might stick to email contact, you might meet for protected time at agreed intervals or you might meet for a catch-up in a local pub. So long as it works for both of you.
