Stuart stutton

On behalf of the whole AiT Committee I’d like to start this month’s message by wishing you a very Happy New Year. As we enter 2012 the Health and Social Care Bill continues to cause concern amongst many healthcare professionals with the Royal Colleges of Nursing and Midwifery joining the BMA’s stance of outright opposition to the proposed reforms. Of the almost 2,600 respondents to the recent RCGP member survey (click here for results)

98% supported a joint call for withdrawal with other medical royal colleges. As GPs of the future the Bill (and its potential impact on patients and the NHS as a whole) could have a major impact on AiTs and I continue to support the excellent work of our Chair of College, Clare Gerada, in raising the RCGP’s concerns.

Extended of Training

It has, for some years, been an aspiration of the RCGP to see an extension of GP training beyond the current 3 year programme. The RCGP is very keen to gather the thoughts of trainees around this subject in relation to their experience of training. I would be very grateful if you could take the time to complete this short 5 minute survey .
