License to practice
The RCGP's certification unit evaluates
general practice training on behalf of the General Medical Council
(GMC).
The assessments GP trainees
undertake during their training programme are assessed, in
conjunction with the deaneries, and where the necessary criteria
are met a recommendation is made to the GMC.
- Applied Knowledge Test (AKT)
- Clinical Skills Assessment
(CSA)
- Workplace-based Assessment
(WPBA)
Once all three assessments are
completed and approved the College will inform the GMC and subject
to their approval, a certificate of completion of training is
released. The GMC registers doctors to practise medicine in the UK
and are responsible for certifying doctors for entry onto the GMC
GP Register.
There are two routes to inclusion
on the GP register:
This is awarded to doctors
who have completed a full GMC GP approved training
programme.
This is awarded to doctors who
have not followed the standard CCT route and would like to include
training undertaken overseas or non approved GP training
posts.
