MRCGP - Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners

Dual Purpose

Since its inception in August 2007 the MRCGP serves two purposes: firstly it is the assessment during training (which along with approval from PMETB) is a license to practice independently as a general pracitioner (other criteria for practicing can be sought from the GMC); and secondly it is one of three routes to Membership of the College.

Upon completion of a GP training programme and once in receipt of a certificate from PMETB GPSTRs are eligible for full Membership of the College. Many who register as Associates in Training (AiTs) are 'upgraded' automatically to full Member with no further fees applicable for the remainder of the current subscription year.  For eligibility criteria please see After Applying for CCT.

Alternative routes to Membership of the College:

Membership by Asssessment of Performance
