Newly qualified GPs

Our membership package for newly qualified GPs is called First5®. With dedicated events UK-wide, resources and online forums, we offer support through those crucial five years from qualification up to your first point of Revalidation.

First5® is based on five pillars:

  • Facilitating Networks Encouraging peer support and mentoring through the development of local networks
  • Connecting Promoting a sense of belonging and appropriate representation for the First5® cohort within the College
  • Career mentorship (requires logins) Making the most of a career in general practice
  • Supporting Revalidation
  • Continued Professional Development (CPD) and new skills  


First5®: reasons to join

Joining gives you unparalleled opportunities for networking with other GPs, attending First5® events and getting involved with your local RCGP Faculty. We can also put you in touch with potential mentors to help you make the most of your career as a GP.

Membership is a cost-effective way of getting access to our high-quality CPD and Revalidation resources – including free access to our Revalidation ePortfolio.

How to apply for First5® membership

If you are already a member of the College and have completed your GP training within the past 5 years, you will have been automatically enrolled into the First5® programme.

If you are not a member of the college, apply by simply completing an application form and returning it to our Membership Services Department.

Membership requirements

To qualify for membership as a First5® GP, you’ll need to have passed our membership exam, the MRCGP, and hold full GMC registration.

By applying to become a member, you agree to abide by the requirements set out in RCGP’s constitutional documents.


First5® membership fees for 2014-2015

How to pay your joining fees

There are discounted rates available for members who for example, reside overseas, are out of work, on maternity or adoption leave. You can often claim tax relief on membership fees.
