Oral assessment

The basis of the oral assessment is to discuss how you justify particular actions or approaches to your work. This is an opportunity for you to reflect on what you do and review the evidence that underpins your professional activity.

When your portfolio has been accepted (this may be after one, or several, attempts) you will be invited to attend the oral assessment.

Timeframe

If you are completing Portfolio iMAP you will be advised of the week that you will be invited for your oral assessment when your portfolio has been accepted by the assessors.

If you are completing Modular iMAP you will be advised of the week that you will be invited for your oral assessment when your eligibility to complete iMAP has been confirmed.  This will be after your submissions for each of the fifteen criteria have been accepted by the assessors and after we have received your Application.

If you are unable to attend the approximate date that you are given, please contact the iMAP office as soon as possible.

The exact date and time of your oral assessment will be confirmed by email no less than four weeks prior to the date.

Any late cancellation (after your oral assessment date has been confirmed) may incur a charge.

Structure

The oral assessment lasts for 90 minutes and is divided into three separate sessions with three different pairs of iMAP assessors. There is a five minute break between each session.

The first session lasts forty minutes and mainly comprises a discussion around the portfolio you have submitted. The second and third sessions each last twenty minutes and the questions are based on the criteria in the Handbook.

Guidance

It is important that you are familiar with your portfolio in its entirety, including comments made by the portfolio assessors, when you attend the oral assessment.
