Frequently Asked Questions
If you have questions which aren't listed
below please let us know at fellowship@rcgp.org.uk
How hard is this going to be?
The process has been designed so it is not onerous
or laborious for any party. We hope it is not
bureaucratic nor a tick-box exercise but the sharing of a Member's
achievements by those who have witnessed the successes.
Who can nominate
Members?
Members and Fellows can nominate their
peers. Nominating Members (and seconders) should be 'in good
standing' for five consecutive years.
Who can be a
seconder?
If the nominator is a practice
colleague then the seconders must be from outwith the practice.
They could be someone from the LMC, a faculty colleague or a
deanery colleague.
How long will it
take?
There are no deadlines but
recommendations and decisions are made at certain times in the year.
What should my statement
cover?
Nominators and candidates may
consider the achievement categories as a way of structuring a
statement. Good submissions would enable faculties to make easy
positive decisions. Presenting what someone has done, how they have
done it, with who and with what impact will make a clear case.
Candidates can be more reflective in their word limit.
How much should I
write?
Nominators should write 500 words,
seconders should write 400 and candidates/nominees should submit
1000 words.
Do I need to provide
evidence?
No. One of the principles of this
approach is that the majority of GPs are doing a great job. We
trust Members and Fellows to only nominate those who they think
should be awarded with Fellowship, as we trust our faculties to
recommend Members who are deserving.
I’m not really involved with
my local faculty. Does this mean that it's unlikely that I'd be
identified as a worthy candidate for nomination?
Each Faculty Fellowship Committee will
look at their membership to try and identify worthy candidates. For
those who are unknown to the faculty PCOs, deaneries, LMCs and
universities are able to make suggestions to the Committee's.
If a practice partner or colleague is doing something worthy of
Fellowship then you can nominate them.
What if a Member Nominator (or
seconder) is not in our Faculty but wants to nominate a candidate
who is?
As long as the candidate is a
Faculty member then you can accept the nomination.
