RCGP practical training day: How can identifying and managing allergic disease help you care for your patients?

This meeting is focused on how identifying and managing allergy can help you improve the management of your patients with asthma, rhinitis, food allergy and Coeliac Disease. The meeting, which will be in an informal style which creates a lively discussion environment, is a practical training day; GPs and clinical experts will discuss how they use allergy testing in everyday practice, how allergy testing has changed how they manage their patients, what you need to do to request testing, and how to interpret results.

Accredited Clinical Skills Course Wednesday 2 May 2018

This one day accredited Clinical Skills course, kindly subsidised by HEEofE, aims to help improve the clinical skills in the GP consultation for a more effective, efficient and patient-centred care.

The day will include explanations of clinical skills with the use of role players and small facilitated group work to allow all attendees the opportunity to participate in mock consultations.

The small group will be facilitated by 4 experienced CSA examiners who will give constructive individual feedback to participants.

The course is suitable for doctors at all stages of career with additional value to those sitting the MRCGP CSA exams.

Palliative and End of Life Care Study Day Wednesday 2 May 2018

Paediatric Allergy Primary Care Study Day

Womens Health Study Day Wednesday 23 May 2018

This one day women's health course is designed to further develop practitioners with the knowledge and skills to facilitate the management of women’s health issues in primary care.

The format will be lecture based, interspersed with case scenarios and Q&A sessions. The sessions will be informal, interactive and light-hearted.

A sample of topics that will be covered include:
• benign breast disease
• HRT
• pregnancy with diabetes and other endocrine disease
• how pregnancy outcomes predict long-term health risks
• family planning training in the developing world and how it is an ideal topic for skills exchange.

This course is designed for all GPs and GP STs who have an interest in updating their skills and knowledge in this area. It is aimed at all GPs, not just those with a special interest.

Patient Data Choices Symposium: Trust, Transparency and Data Choice

FREE RCGP & NHS Digital Patient Data Choices National Event – Friends House, London, 24 May 2018

Join us on the eve of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) coming into force and the implementation of a national data opt-out to understand what the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) is doing to support general practice teams and their patients. The event will also launch the new RCGP Patient Data Choices toolkit.

The event will set the scene for general practice and its role in implementing and upholding individuals’ choice about how their data is shared. We will look at the importance of choice and trust, and what the RCGP is doing to ensure that general practice teams are supported to advise patients confidently about data sharing and the opt-out in a balanced way. There will be a demonstration of how the new digital opt-out service works and a look at what the RCGP is planning to do to support general practice teams uphold the national data opt-out. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions in a Q&A session.

Joint injections

The North and West London Faculty will be running an interactive, theory and practice course covering the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of musculoskeletal conditions such as: frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel, tennis/golfer’s elbow, ‘trigger’ finger, De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, rotator cuff tendinopathy, acromioclavicular joint OA, bicipital tendonitis, trochanteric bursitis, aspiration/ injection of the knee joint, Carpometacarpal (CMC) osteoarthritis (OA).

The course prepares those new to these skills to undertake examination and injection, and will deepen and refresh the knowledge and skills of those already performing injections. The course includes Direct Observation of Procedural Skills (DOPS) assessments during practical skills sessions for those wishing to evidence competence in a given procedure.

Learners will view videos, demonstrations and undertake examination and injection using highly detailed and accurate simulated models – overseen by experienced tutors and clinicians. Small group work, question and answer sessions, illustrated presentations and practice sessions enhance the learning opportunities, build confidence and enhance techniques and skills.

This is the first Beds and Herts 2 day conference. The programme is diverse so it is suitable for GPs at all stages of their careers.
