This is an intensive half day update course for all GPs wishing to refresh their knowledge of the 6-8 week baby check.  The course requires all attendees to complete a pre-course e-learning module (35 minutes).

The course is suitable for

All GPs who deliver the child health programme and 6-8 week check in their practices.  All those attending this course ideally should have a basic knowledge of the 6-8 week baby check or currently be performing checks.


This course is not suitable for trainees.


Learning points

By the end of the course attendees will have:

Updated their knowledge of the 6-8 week check and Healthy Child Programme

Considered what may be found at the check and what to do about it.

Considered the clinical governance issues relating to the check using real cases where problems have been missed.

Dr Adit Jain - Deputy Medical Director & Appraisal Lead, NHS England (Cheshire & Merseyside) since 2012.  GP Trainer since 2009. GP Tutor for Knowsley PCT since 2008 (and Knowsley CCG since 2013). GP Partner Dinas Lane Medical Centre since 2006. Teaching Fellow at University of Liverpool, 2005-2006. Qualified University of Liverpool, 2001.

Rajiv Mittal M.B.B.S., D.C.H., F.R.C.P.C.H.  -  A medical practitioner currently employed as a Consultant Community Paediatrician by the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.  He has been practicing medicine since 1992 and specialising in Paediatrics since 2003.  Has a special interest in Autistic Spectrum Disorders and Safeguarding.  He works as designated doctor for safeguarding for Western Cheshire and also organises Level 3 Safeguarding Course for GPs.
