Using the latest audit tools, clinical scenarios, guidelines and updates, delegates attending this Addictions Update course will gain a deeper understanding of the complex nature of addictions with applicable tools and techniques for diagnosis, management and care.

 

Led by Dr Soraya Mayet, Consultant Psychiatrist – Humber NHS Foundation Trust, you will cover the following core topics:

  • Recovery, assessment, diagnosis & management

  • ›Drug Misuse guidelines update 
  • ›Pain, prescription medication abuse & dependence
  • ›Novel psychoactive substances

This course will take place at the Village Hotel, Hull, which has free parking, WiFi and free tea and coffee for the duration of the course. Please arrive at 08:30 for a 09:00 start.

Facilitator/Speakers

Dr Soraya Mayet - Consultant Psychiatrist on GMC Specialist Register for Addictions.  Works full time in a clinical post for the East Riding Partnership for Addictions, which is a partnership between the Humber NHS FT, ADS and Nacro. 

Dr Mayet trained in addictions at Maudsley Hospital and has been involved with addictions clinical, teaching, research and policy for 15 years.  She has a range of addictions clinical experience including in-patient, rehabilitation, community, prison, dual diagnosis, perinatal and pain.  In addition Dr Mayet has also been the Consultant Psychiatrist responsible for the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, Hull.

Dr Mayet has extensive training experience including teaching GPs, Psychiatrists Non-Medical Prescribers, Psychiatry and GP trainees, medical stude,ts other hospital specialists and healthcare professionals.  She is Doctor of Medicine (MD Res) Kings College London completing an Addictions research thesis on methadone and QT prolongation under supervision of Professor Strang.  She has been seconded to the Department of Health and National Treatment Agency for a GMC case of addictions doctors and contributed to the DH 2007 clinical guidelines, Oxford textbook and WHO naloxone guidelines.  She has over 20 peer review publications, mainly in addictions.  She is currently co-opted to the RCPsych Addictions faculty executive and is a member of the RCPsych Patient Safety Expert Working Group.
