Botulinum Toxin Safe prescribing and administration course

With a maximum of 4 delegates, each course covers both NHS and cosmetic uses of Botulinum toxin as well as legal and ethical Issues. Now in its third year of accreditation with the RCGP we have gained very high feedback from delegates and all comment on how safe, confident and well supported they feel following attendance. There are lectures and discussions while allowing time for simulation and practice on mannequins before culminating in treating live models. All delegates will get suitable time to treat live models, receive a course booklet, samples of injection records and consent forms. All equipment for the day will be provided.

As the use of Botulinum toxin continues to grow and evolve so it is important that GPs understand the common uses, side effects and be able to deal with its complications. GPs, even if not directly administering Botulinum toxin directly are very likely to encounter patients who have had Botulinum toxin. It is important to know the indications for the drug and also the complications that may arise. This course provides an introduction to Botulinum toxin allowing participants if they wish to continue on to level 7 courses proposed by Health Education England.

Learning Objectives:
To understand the pharmacology, pharmacodynamics, safety issues and uses of Botulinum toxin
To understand the evidence base for common uses seen in General practice
To assess patients who may benefit from Botulinum toxin treatment
To safely prescribe and use Botulinum toxin for various medical uses including cosmetic uses

Taught by tutors with a background in general practice and led by the education lead for the Association of Surgeons in Primary Care and an expert witness for the MPS, MDU and GMC, this course guides you to an enjoyable, stress-free minor surgery practice.
