This is a full day course that will cover the frequently seen aspects of symptom control, including pain control, gastrointestinal and respiratory symptoms and psychological issues.  The day will also cover palliative care emergencies, end of life care and advance care planning.  As part of the day there will be a hospice tour during which the modern face of palliative care will be demonstrated, including how palliative and hospice care is changing to meet the needs of all people with all diagnoses."

The importance of Advance care planning and how to achieve this with the patient and their families will be discussed.

How to recognise and manage a palliative care emergency will be covered. There will also be sessions on managing different types of pain, gastrointestinal and respiratory symptoms at the end of life as well as understanding the causes and how to treat nausea and vomiting.
