With the NICE guidelines ‘Suspected Neurological Condition’ due to be published at the end of January 2018, the RCGP and P-CNS are delighted to be collaborating on another One Day Essential Neurology. Like last year, the ODE will be chaired by Dr Nassif Mansour, GPwSI in Neurology in south west London and the chair of the Primary Care Neurology Society (P-CNS).

There were 12.5 million cases with neurological conditions in England in 2014 and increasing. This is about 60,000 patients per CCG. In the same period there were 1,500,000 new admissions to hospitals costing the NHS £4.4 Billion. Moreover £2.4 Billion was spent on social care for people with neurological conditions in same year All GPs, along with other primary care and community practitioners find managing patients with neurological conditions increasingly challenging. When 1000 GPs were asked, 85% felt that they could benefit from further training on identifying and managing people presenting with neurological conditions

The main objectives for this year’s One Day Essential include:

  • To strengthen delegate skills in identifying the common neurological conditions within the 7-10 mins consultation
  • To do a proper risk assessment to decide how best to manage them, including referral in a timely fashion
  • To be able to identify the complications related to the chronic neurological problems and manage them appropriately
  • To improve confidence in identifying related Functional Neurological symptoms
  • To help develop clinical pathways to facilitate integration and development of services in your locality.

  • Headaches Dizziness and Funny Turns
  • Transient Loss of Consciousness and Epilepsy
  • Red flags in Neurology
  • Functional Neurology Disorders
  • Dementia
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinson's Disease

With the positive feedback from last year’s event we feel confident that this ODE will support you in your practice and in your professional development. We look forward to welcoming you on the day.
