ENT is a very important speciality for general practice. According to the GP handbook; 8 out of 14 consultations with GPs are ENT related. With the exception of auscultation of the chest and measuring the blood pressure, the most common examinations that a GP performs are examining the ears and the throat. So, how good are we at ENT? Not very, this is down to the lack of adequate undergraduate training in ENT. This has left a big gap in our ENT knowledge and skills. Hence also its practice and application. As GP’s our examination of the ear is inadequate, and of the nose virtually non-existent, the larynx we cannot examine. Thus our diagnosis and management suffer. It is imperative that we be robust in our ENT knowledge as a general practitioner.

This one day essential course will aim to cover:

  • Many of the common ENT disorders that you will encounter in primary care. Such as: Glue ear, acute otitis media, management of ear perforations, tinnitus, sudden hearing loss, nasal obstruction, epistaxis, rhinosinusitis, and hoarseness, and sore throats, red flags in ENT, Bell’s palsy, and dizziness (Epley manoeuvre) amongst others.
  • Essential, basic ENT anatomy as required by a GP
  • Providing an interesting, Interactive course with lectures, videos and demonstrations on key aspects of ENT. There will be plenty of opportunity to raise your queries with the speakers.
