Work is often a key determinant of health and getting back to good work is often critical to a good outcome. There is a big gap in our occupational medicine knowledge and skills e.g. are we good at completing fit notes effectively. It is imperative that we be robust in our knowledge as a general practitioner.

To strengthen delegate skills in work and health issues:

  • Review management of common workplace issues such as shift work and any issues relating to an ageing workforce
  • Understand key aspects such as fitness to drive and legal aspects
  • Improved knowledge about the role of the GP in work and health issues and future policy plans in this area

Learning Outcomes:

  • To update GPs' knowledge of Occupational Medicine
  • To improve outcomes of patients presenting with workplace issues in GP surgeries
  • To improve confidence in completing the fit note effectively
  • To improve ability to advice on fitness to drive
  • Greater insight into a range of work and health topics including legal issues
