FREE RCGP & NHS Digital Patient Data Choices National Event – Friends House, London, 24th May 2018

Join us on the eve of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) coming into force and the implementation of NHS Digital’s new service supporting a national data opt-out to understand what the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) is doing to support general practice teams and their patients. The event will also launch the new RCGP Patient Data Choices toolkit.

The national data opt-out will enable patients and the public to register their choice for sharing identifiable health and care information for purposes beyond their individual care.

The event will set the scene for general practice and its role in implementing and upholding individuals’ choice about how their data is shared. We will look at the importance of choice and trust, and what the RCGP is doing to ensure that general practice teams are supported to advise patients confidently about data sharing and the opt-out in a balanced way. There will be a demonstration of how the new digital opt-out service works and a look at what the RCGP is planning to do to support general practice teams uphold the national data opt-out. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions in a Q&A session.

Key speakers include Professor Helen Stokes-Lampard, RCGP chair; Dame Fiona Caldicott, National Data Guardian; Dr Victoria Tzortziou-Brown, RCGP joint Honorary Secretary and Dr Geoff Schrecker, Patient Data Choices Clinical Champion.

The Patient Data Choices project is an RCGP-led project that aims to produce information and run events to support general practice teams to accurately advise patients on their data sharing options and to help practice teams uphold the national data opt-out.

The event is FREE to attend and includes a breakfast buffet and lunch. A full programme will follow.
