International Activities

Bursaries:

RCP Bursary scheme is for Physicians practising in low-income and lower-middle-income countries, as defined by the World Bank. The Bursary will enable successful applicants to attend an RCP conference in the UK and, subject to availability, a 2-4 week study visit to a relevant specialist unit. Countries involved have included Nigeria, Uganda, Egypt, Sudan and Pakistan.

Taking Knowledge Overseas.

 

The College has a small database of experienced Fellows to undertake assignments in less developed countries.  These may vary from speaking at conferences, taking part in postgraduate teaching sessions or observing examinations and giving feedback.  Countries involved have included: Sudan, Nigeria and Zambia.

 

WestAfrican Collegeof Physicians

The RCP is working with the WACP via its president in finding ways to support its Exam and other areas of post-graduate medical education for the region.

 

Tropical Health Education Trust

Working through THET the RCP supports Postgraduate medical education development in teaching hospitals in Uganda, Ghana and Sudan.

 

Medical Masterclass

Sets of Medical Masterclass, a leading RCP CPD resource  have been donated to Yemen, Sudan, Zambia, Ghana, Iraq and Uganda.  The set covers all specialities of clinical medicine as well as the scientific background to clinical practice, general clinical issues and emergencies and practical procedures. There is a total of 12 modules, each separately bound, as well as 2 CD-ROMs with additional interactive case-scenarios 

International Links

With nearly twenty percent of subscribing members & fellows based overseas, across over 80 countries and all continents, our international relations are critical. The College aims to extend its influencing role in promoting high standards of healthcare globally. The International office focuses its activities to meet the needs of overseas Fellows and Members, strategic partners and individual countries and regions

Exporting College Expertise (Education, Professional Training, Clinical Standards, Publications) Undertaking and supporting special projects (THET, Bursaries, Taking Knowledge overseas)

International Associate Directors

 

To assist us with such a broad remit we have Associate International Directors in the UK who are working closely with our Advisors overseas in developing Associate International Directors programmes of work and support. The College intends to focus and prioritise its international activities to meet the needs of overseas Fellows and Members and their patients; individual countries and regions, and critically, the College itself.
