International Activities
The College has a limited but, nonetheless, important programme
of international work, overseen by its International Board.
- The International Paediatric Training Scheme: Allows
outstanding paediatricians from overseas to come to the UK to train
in posts approved by the College. There are currently 212 doctors
accepted on to the scheme.
- International Awards: A number of International Awards are made
each year to enable overseas paediatricians to pay short visits to
the UK.
- Iraq: The College is running a series of courses in Amman for
Iraqi paediatricians, in collaboration with the Jordanian Pediatric
Society.
- The David Baum Foundation: A subsidiary charity of the College
was set up in memory of our late President Professor David Baum.
The Foundation funds medical education projects throughout the
developing world.
- Overseas Linkages Programme: There is an active Overseas
Linkages programme with paediatric societies and institutions
overseas. Memorandums of Understanding have been signed with India,
West Indies and West Africa.
- The College is working with the Medical Aid for Palestine, the
RCGP, the Palestinian Ministry of Health and DFiD to run a project
in Palestine to help with training paediatricians and developing
paediatric services.
- The College has set up a programme jointly with VSO to enable
specialist registrars to undertake one year accredited placements
overseas.
- The College also maintains links with paediatricians overseas,
formally through bodies such as IPA and CESP and informally through
personal contacts that have been developed over many years.

the UK and Hong Kong at present. Potential candidates should
