MRCGP International Development Days

“Continuing Professional Development”

19, 20 and 21 May 2008

Clinical Skills Assessment Centre

Croydon

The MRCGP[INT] board has now hosted six MRCGP[INT] Development Days with the latest held at the Croydon Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA) Centre.

The Development Days provide an opportunity for colleagues from the UK and overseas who share an interest or experience in assessments, or who are moving along the pathway toward MRCGP[INT] accreditation, to meet discuss and learn from each other.

The Development Days offer a wide range of activities, including presentations, discussions, small group work, and are a great opportunity to share expertise in a workshop environment.

The Programme is designed to suit the interests of both overseas and UK colleagues. The event is voluntary, and all are welcome to attend.

The Development Days 2008

This year the Development Days were held on 19-21 May at the RCGP’s CSA Centre in Croydon (which is only 20 minutes from Central London by train), and judging from the feedback we have received, it was a huge success. More than 80 delegates from a wide and diverse range of countries attended the event. Most delegates commented positively on the venue, which attracted particular praise for its functional and spacious layout and its close proximity to diverse amenities.

In the words of Dr John Howard, Medical Director of the MRCGP[INT], Chairman of the MRCGP[INT] Board and Convenor of the event:

“This annual conference invites the attendance and contribution of all who are involved and interested in the development of Family Medicine/General Practice in Primary Healthcare worldwide and wish to share their experiences.

“For those who do not yet know, the MRCGP[INT] is not an MRCGP examination exported internationally, but is a formal academic, educational and quality assurance process, where the RCGP will support and accredit locally developed FM/GP curricula and their assessment examinations to the same rigour and standards as the MRCGP in the UK. For some countries, the MRCGP[INT] provides a gold standard accreditation of their own licensing examinations; for others, it provides a unique opportunity for Family Doctors/GPs/Primary Care Physicians to demonstrate the quality and standard of their competence and develop the CME programmes to prepare for this.

“The theme this year was Continuing Professional Development, which is particularly relevant with the current UK re-licensing and recertification. It was held at the nMRCGP Clinical Assessment Centre in Croydon, Surrey.

“The Development Days are a great opportunity to meet like-minded colleagues working in the amazingly varied contexts of primary healthcare worldwide. You may decide that this is the time to become one of the College’s increasing numbers of International Development Advisers, who can use and stretch their knowledge and skills working with our wonderful colleagues overseas.”
