South Asia
We started to look at the South Asia region
almost 6 years ago, to see whether we could develop a similar
process there. At a conference at the Aga Khan University in
February 2003 we sat with representatives from a number of the
South Asian countries, and the general consensus at that time was
that no one country could support an MRCGP[INT] process but that
collectively the region could develop its own exam, leading to the
award of MRCGP[INT] for successful candidates.
South Asia achieved MRCGP[INT] accreditation
in April 2007. Administered by the British Council, the
written exam (Part 1) is currently available in five centres:
Dhaka (Bangladesh), Kolkata (India), Lahore
and Karachi (Pakistan) and Colombo (Sri
Lanka). The first written exam was held in November 2006
followed by the OSCEs in April 2007. There are plans to offer
two diets of the exam in 2009.
As well as the sites already accredited with MRCGP[INT],
several other countries are working towards accreditation.
