GP Assessment

Previsouly the final assessment or examination for GP Specialist Training was Summative Assessment, defined as ‘minimum clinical standard’.  Summative Assessment tested a GP Registrar’s skills to ensure that they complete training achieving a minimum level of competence to practice independently as a General Practitioner in the NHS.

From August 2007 successful completion of the College's assessment (nMRCGP) will mean a trainee can practice as a GP, as it is an essential requirement for entry to the GMC Generalist Register and Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP). This new assessment will be completed by trainees entering specialty training from August 2007 onwards.
