Becoming a GP

As a GP, you will have the opportunity to have a real impact on people’s lives and the chance to become directly involved with patients and their families.  On a more personal level, General Practice will offer you the opportunity for

  • A varied career
  • Flexible working conditions
  • Scope to develop specialist interests (PDF, 925KB)
  • Involvement in teamwork with other professionals
  • Opportunities to influence health at local and national level

Further information about being a GP is available in the RCGP booklet “So, you want to be a GP?” (PDF, 80Kb). Full text can be downloaded in PDF format here.  To have a hard copy mailed to you, please contact careers@rcgp.org.uk.

The College also publishes a series of Information Sheets, which are excellent summaries of key topics in general practice (IM&T, stress, workload, contract etc).
