Terms of Reference for the Postgraduate Training Board

 

The terms of reference for the PTB are -

 

To be accountable to RCGP Council for

  • The development of policy on all aspects of specialty training for general practice, assessment and certification of GPs;
  • Working with other bodies to ensure the implementation of RCGP policy on specialty training for general practice, assessment and certification of GPs;
  • Advising the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB) on the standards for specialty training for general practice, assessment and certification.

Working through its sub-structures to :

  • Influence the standards and processes for selection into specialty training for general practice;
  • Ensure that the GP curriculum remains up to date and fit for purpose;
  • Influence the quality of specialty training for general practice;
  • Ensure that the assessment of doctors in specialty training for general practice is fit for purpose;
  • Ensure that the certification of GPs following their training is carried out to appropriate standards.

To take on other responsibilities in relation to specialty training and assessment for general practice as required by RCGP Council.

 

The Postgraduate Training Board will disseminate reports of its meetings to the RCGP Country Councils.
