Meet the President

Professor David HaslamIt’s a great pleasure to welcome you to the College and we hope this is just the beginning of the relationship.  I hope that you will become an Associate in Training member and take advantafe of the benefits we offer. We hope you’ll find that your membership continues to add value to your own career as it unfolds.

The College is keen to represent the interests of members and to listen to your ideas and suggestions for how you would like to see general practice develop, and what we can do for you as members. In response to feedback from members seeking a regular form of contact from the College, we have created a monthly e-newsletter to bring you up to speed with changes in GP training, the new College assessment and to keep you up to speed with reminders and all important diary dates. It’s important to us that we offer you the support you deserve throughout your training and in exchange, we hope that you will tell us your thoughts along the way.

The College is organised around its 31 local College branches, known as Faculties. Attending courses and events run by your Faculty is an excellent way of establishing your relationship with the College, generating social and professional contact with peers, and facilitates contact between GPs and those who work in local primary health care.

The College’s Officers meet regularly with Ministers and senior officials in the NHS and Department of Health, and the College contributes regularly to consultations on issues of National Policy. GP Registrars are represented on Council and you’ll be introduced to your reps in this guide.

Congratulations on choosing general practice as a career. We hope that you enjoy your training and wish you the very best for your future.

Professor David Haslam
