The purpose of the MRCGP Examination

The MRCGP Examination aims to test the wide-ranging knowledge, competencies, clinical and communication skills, and professional attributes considered appropriate by the College for a doctor intending to undertake unsupervised practice in the contemporary British National Health Service, while reflecting the emerging agendas in postgraduate medical education, training and certification.

The examination is designed and administered in accordance with internationally accepted best practice, as are its marking, standard-setting and quality control procedures.  The Panel of Examiners also affirm their commitment to the principles of fairness and equal opportunity, particularly in the areas of ethnicity and gender.
